Background

Apply Design is a virtual staging software that enables users to easily create automatic and realistic interior designs with just a few clicks. As a Y Combinator startup, Apply Design has helped thousands of users create over 50,000 properties in 82 different countries.

Challenge

The virtual staging market is a rapidly growing industry and highly competitive, catering to a niche customer base - those who want to showcase their properties at their fullest potential to prospective buyers. Apply Design was looking to scale their marketing efforts, acquire new customers, and increase their return on ad spend with Stackmatix.

Solution

Our primary goal was to identify the set of keywords that would effectively target customers with the highest purchase intent and retention rate. Rather than solely focusing on acquiring new customers, we aimed to attract those who would make purchases after their initial free trials. To achieve this, we adjusted our strategy to primarily target first-time purchasers, allowing us to track new customer acquisition and optimize our efforts towards those with the highest likelihood of converting.

With this strategy in mind, we analyzed the sign-up to purchase ratio of the existing keywords and launched a series of tests involving new keywords, ad copy, and bid adjustments tailored to different customer segments. The key was to fully understand and capture the purchase intent of customers searching for various keywords. For instance, since individuals in the real estate industry tend to be long-term customers, we targeted a set of keywords that included real estate-related themes to attract this specific audience.

In addition to optimizing our keyword strategy, we expanded our marketing presence by launching remarketing campaigns on AdRoll and reactivating Microsoft Ads. To determine the platform with the best cost per purchase, we compared AdRoll and Google Ads display campaigns for remarketing purposes. Upon observing better results on AdRoll, we proposed and uploaded various creatives that highlighted Apply Design's strengths. Moreover, despite the previously high cost per purchase on Microsoft Ads, we achieved our CPA goal through constant monitoring of search terms and implementing tailored optimizations specific to Microsoft Ads.

Results

Since the beginning of our partnership in September 2022, Apply Design has experienced remarkable growth. The monthly new user purchase count has doubled, and the overall number of new users from Paid Search has increased by an impressive 340% as of May 2023. In addition, we recently achieved the highest monthly new user purchase volume ever on both Google Ads and Microsoft Ads. This outstanding performance has enabled us to double the ad spend across both platforms while maintaining the ideal profit margin, a testament to the significant progress of our client in recent months.

Moreover, our exceptional results across all Paid Search platforms have prompted us to relaunch Meta Ads. Although previously paused due to low performance, we are excited to see the potential of our new real estate tailored targeting strategy on Meta Ads. With these remarkable achievements and the continuous growth we are experiencing, we look forward to further advancing Apply Design's success.

Our successful partnership has extended beyond Paid Search, as we recently expanded our collaboration to include our Social Media Stack and SEO Stack.
